Senior Day in the Park, an annual event, was held Thursday, October 8th, 2015 at the Cape May County Park and Zoo. The Cape May County Department of Aging and Disability Services started this event as a fun day of activities and lunch for seniors in Cape May County. Live music was performed throughout the day by Danny Leao of Tino’s Hawaiian Entertainment.
A pickleball demonstration led by Barry Keefe, a member of the Department of Aging Advisory Council, started the festivities. Attendees learned how to play the game of pickleball (a sport that combines tennis, table tennis and badminton) and participated in a game following the demonstration.
Denise Jones and the American Eagle Tai Chi Club gave a Tai Chi Presentation and encouraged the group to follow along or try the movements at home. The exercises were suited to all levels of fitness and the exercises could be done while seated.
Name That Tune is a favorite game played every year during Senior Day in the Park. Participants had to name 10 songs and identify the artists. Those who correctly identified the most songs received prizes.
The last event of the day before lunch was a Zoo to You education presentation by Katie Lolla of the Cape May County Zoo. The presentation included 3 live animals and several artifacts. Frizzle the hen was the star of the show and was very well liked by the crowd.
