[ARCHIVED] Dedication of New Golden Lion Tamarin Exhibit at the Cape May County Zoo

Join Cape May County Freeholder Marie Hayes and the Plousis family of Ocean City for the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Golden Lion Tamarin exhibit at the Cape May County Zoo. The new exhibit will be dedicated in memory of Kathleen Plousis, late wife of former U.S. Marshall James Plousis, who had a love of all animals.

The exhibit is larger and taller than the previous habitat, an increase from 12ft to 16ft tall. The new screening is almost invisible, allowing for easier viewing by the public. The enclosure is not only bigger, but stronger, and will have all new furnishings inside.

The Golden Tamarin Lion from Southeastern Brazil are severely endangered because their habitat has been fragmented into small, unconnected areas. About 1,500 golden lion tamarins live in the wild.

The dedication will take place at the Cape May County Zoo on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at 12 p.m. Directions to the exhibit can be obtained at the entrance to the park.
