Cape May County Freeholder Vice-Director Leonard C. Desiderio and Fire Marshal Conrad Johnson, Jr. announce that the county’s Fire Academy is holding a Graduation Ceremony on Friday, June 26, 2015 for Fire Fighter 1 and Fire Fighter 2 candidates. The ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. at the Cape May County Public Safety Training Center located at 171 Crest Haven Road, Cape May Court House, New Jersey (Exit 11 off the Garden State Parkway).
The Firefighter 1 Program provides the training necessary to for an individual to attain the basic skills that a fire fighter must possess to safely perform duties of a Fireman at an entry level. This program meets the 164 hour course requirements of the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety. The course includes Haz-Mat Awareness and Operations, I-100 and I-700, Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and live burn training.

The Fire Fighter II Program is designed to meet the requirements of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001, Professional Qualifications for Firefighters and the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety (NJDFS) Firefighter II certification regulations. The program provides students with the knowledge and skill to operate at an emergency scene with minimal supervision. Included in the course are structural fire attack, flammable liquids and gases firefighting, foam operations, confined space and technical rescue awareness, low angle rope rescue, motor vehicle extraction, firefighter survival, basic first aid and Incident Management System 200.

The Cape May County Fire Academy together with Camden, Atlantic, Gloucester, Salem and Cumberland County Fire Academies make up the South Jersey Regional Training Academies (SJRTA) for the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety and are Nationally accredited by the ProBoard.
The Cape May County Public Training Center serves as a training facility for fire, police, rescue personnel and 911 dispatchers from the State of New Jersey. The facility consists of classrooms, outdoor and indoor firing ranges, a fire tower, a smoke house, burn building and pit for fire fighting training plus a 6,250 square foot block Fire Training Building/Garage consisting of 3 equipment bays along with an equipment/teaching bay with bleacher seating. This building allows live fire training, as well as, advanced pump operations training to take place in all weather conditions.
