From left to right - Richard Benson, Joseph Schaffer, Bill Howard and Earl Griffis
While there are close to a dozen Veterans at Crest Haven
Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, three of our distinguished members
participated in placing flags in our beautiful gardens for Memorial Day.
Mr. Joseph Schaffer served in the Army in Germany. Mr.
Richard Benson is a Korean War Veteran. Mr. Earl Griffis, a World War II
Veteran, was on a Submarine-Chaser in the Pacific. In January 1945, he
was below deck when the ship was bombed and sank.
Bill Howard, of the Crest Haven Maintenance Department,
coordinated the Memorial Day recognition of our Veterans. Bill was in the
Navy and served in the Middle East. He is a member of VFW Post 5343
located in the Villas. The Post supplied the flags which were donated by
Ace Hardware.
Three courageous men who served our country – “…the land of
the free and the home of the brave”.
