[ARCHIVED] Sign Up Now for Junior Chefs Cooking Camps this Summer!

Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County Family & Community Health Sciences Program will, once again, hold two Junior Chefs Cooking Camps this summer for aspiring young chefs 8 to 12 years of age. Junior Chefs I will be offered July 9 through the 13 for beginners and Junior Chefs II from July 30 through August 3 for more advanced students. Both camps will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rutgers Cooperative Extension, 355 Court House-South Dennis Road, Cape May Court House, New Jersey.

These hands-on programs will be presented by Marilou Rochford, MA, CFLE, Rutgers Cooperative Extension Family & Community Health Sciences Educator. The future chefs will learn many new skills plus how to prepare a variety of foods and snacks. These camps were first developed in 2013 to incorporate nutrition education with hands-on food preparation lessons to encourage a lifetime of healthy eating habits. At the end of the program, participants will be able to prepare simple and healthy foods for themselves and their family.

Rochford said, “Our Jr. Chefs Cooking Camps are a series of cooking classes that are engaging from start to finish. Participants will learn what constitutes a healthy diet for children.”

In Junior Chefs I students are beginning to develop their skills. They will be taught the basics of food preparation, kitchen safety, the five food groups and cooking techniques to create tasty dishes. Students work in partnerships with other students.

Junior Chefs II is for students who have graduated from the Chefs I camp or have previous cooking experience. In Chefs II students again cook to eat healthy, and build on their previous kitchen experiences. They will gain additional kitchen skills learning more complex techniques and recipes.

The cost for each week of camp is $125, however, you can sign your child up for both weeks for only $225. Space is limited, so, please reserve your child’s space by June 22, 2018.
