Maintenance Paving Project in Upper Township


On September 5th and 6th, South State, Inc. of Bridgeton, NJ, the contractor on the Cape May County’s 2017 Maintenance Paving Contract, plans to mill and pave a portion of Stagecoach Road (CR667) from Butter Road to Coventry Lane in the Palermo section of Upper Township.  Construction work hours are typically from 7:00am to 6:00pm.   There will be localized road closure and detouring of traffic during working hours.  Local traffic will be permitted.

On Tuesday, South State will be milling the existing asphalt surface and resurfacing the southbound lane on Stagecoach Road beginning at the Coventry Lane intersection while also maintaining southbound traffic on Stagecoach Road.  Northbound Stagecoach Road traffic will be detoured at Butter Road to US Route 9 and then back to Stagecoach Road at Church Road.  On Wednesday, South State will be milling the existing asphalt surface and resurfacing the northbound lane on Stagecoach Road beginning at Butter Road while also maintaining northbound traffic on Stagecoach Road.  Southbound Stagecoach Road traffic will be detoured at Church Road to US Route 9 and then back to Stagecoach Road at Butter Road. 

The depth of milling of the existing asphalt surfacing varies from 2 inches to 5 inches deep. The resurfacing will match existing elevations.                       

Stagecoach Road will be open each night after construction working hours, however motorists are cautioned that there will be times when there is no centerline striping.  Temporary pavement markers will be placed to delineate the centerline.  Motorists are advised to avoid the work areas, and if not, to use caution when traveling through the construction zones. 

Variable message signs advising motorists of the pending paving work will be placed prior to and during the work operations.

This schedule is subject to change and is dependent upon having good weather.

This work is part of the County’s $2,180,000 construction contract awarded by the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders to South State, Inc. on May 23, 2017   The milling and paving operations are being overseen by Gibson Associates, P.A., Ocean View, NJ.
