Jessica Lang Miller, (left) FCHS Consultant and Marilou Rochford, FCHS Educator presented the workshop, Mindful Eating, Mindful Life, at Rutgers Cooperative Extension on January 25th.

Marilou Rochford, FCHS Educator, said, “Research shows that most New Year’s resolutions are gone by Valentine’s Day, so maybe " A mindful New Year" can be your goal since it takes mindfulness to understand why we make the choices we do.”

Participants at the Mindful Eating, Mindful Life workshop learned what mindful eating is, what benefits come from mindful eating, and some tips to incorporate mindful eating in their life. Tips to introduce mindfulness to mealtimes include: eating slowly, making time for quiet time and reflection during meal time, make meal time an electronics-free zone, pay attention to flavor, and Know your food - Mindfulness is really about rekindling a relationship with our food.

The next workshop in the 2017 FCHS Wellness Series is Short on time…Learn how to make Quick, Healthy Meals and Snacks.  This workshop will take place on Wednesday, March 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Rutgers Cooperative Extension, 355 Court House – South Dennis Road, Cape May Court House, New Jersey. 

Participants will learn ten tips to help build a healthy meal, how to stock their pantry, how to make healthy selections when dining out, and why and how to increase daily physical activity.

Also, a slow cooker meal will be demonstrated and served to participants for dinner.
