Who is behind the planning of a successful 4-H Fair? The answer is a handful of dedicated individuals that make up the Cape May County 4-H Foundation, Inc. who donate their experience, energy and time to create the annual 4-H Fair. The board members have been meeting all spring to discuss changes and new events coming to the fair this July.

4-H Fair attendees can look forward to exciting entertainment, rides, diverse food vendors, and educational and fun exhibits that include an exhibit from Rutgers University which is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year!

Some returning events include a bicyclist stunt show with performances both Friday and Saturday, a color run, brand new butterfly garden, children’s pet show – open to all, livestock and horse shows, a Market Animal Auction, Farmers’ Market, bouncy houses, a children’s scavenger hunt that will have participants searching through the fairgrounds, a bigger and better Maker Space that combines even more elements of innovation, do-it-yourself skills, crafts and technology.

The children’s discovery area will appeal to young children with the Life on the Farm activity, selfies with Willow the Miniature Horse, and the new Butterfly Garden. Thanks to the work of the Rutgers Master Gardeners, the Irma McVey Memorial Herb Garden will be open for touch, taste and smell tours.

The 2016 4-H Foundation Board includes Ron Day, 4-H Foundation President and 4-H Fair Chair; Cliff Lockwood Vice-President, Ken Morey, Secretary, Maria Schumann, 4-H Fair Secretary; Carol Sawyer, 4-H foundation Treasurer, Carol Porch, Pam Gaskill, Elvina Johnson, Jessica Pikolycky, Matt Stiles, Ross Unkle, Herb Siefken, and Shawn Wright.

The annual 4-H fair runs July 21-23 at the 4-H fairgrounds located at 355 Court House – South Dennis Road in Cape May Court House. Admission is free!
The 4-H Youth Development Program is part of the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station and the Rutgers Cooperative Extension. 4-H educational programs are offered to all youth grades K – 13 on an age-appropriate basis, without regard to race, religion, color, natural origin, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
