The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) sponsored by the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders to connect men and women who are 55 and older with volunteer opportunities in their community. Volunteers will be:
The Retired Senior Volunteer Program is to provide a variety of opportunities for retired persons or semi-retired persons, age 55 and older, to meet their community needs. RSVP Volunteers may serve from a few, to over 40 hours a week, providing their skills, talents and experience to services in community organizations, education, hospitals, faith-based groups and Homeland Security.
History
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program began in 1971 and grew out of a pilot program in New York which demonstrated beyond a doubt the value of services of older volunteers. Since 1993, the Corporation for National and Community Service has administered the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. RSVP is one of the largest volunteer efforts in the nation. In fiscal year 2003, more than 500,000 RSVP volunteers served an average of 4 hours a week at an estimated 75,000 local organizations through 791 RSVP projects.

- Working together with local non-profit organizations to build bridges to stronger communities
