The theme for the 2014 Student Government Day was, "Careers and Opportunities in County Government." The students heard about career options in Finance, Human Services, Healthcare, Human Resources, and Administration.
Sheriff Gary Schaffer spoke to the students about the changes over the years in law enforcement and the role of the various divisions within the department. The K-9 unit did a demonstration for the students. Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton and Freeholder Will Morey gave the students an overview of county government.
Tours and demonstrations from the County Engineer on laser surveying, GIS mapping with the Planning Dept. and an overview of county building projects by Facilities and Services were conducted as part of the activities. The highlight of Student Government Day for the students was conducting the caucus and freeholder meetings. The Freeholders and Department Heads were impressed with the students and enjoyed working with them.
