Volunteer
The Volunteer Program is BACK after a long suspension due to COVID!
Volunteers play an integral role at the Cape May County Animal Shelter. There are many tasks they do daily at the shelter such as:
- Cage and kennel cleaning
- Cat socializing and exercising
- Dog walking
- Special events
- PetSmart Aide
- Foster Home
Junior Volunteers
Interested residents 14-17 years of age may volunteer, however they must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult while volunteering. Unfortunately, we do not have the staff to provide supervision for junior volunteers. That adult providing the supervision must attend orientation as well.Orientations
Those interested in volunteering must first attend a mandatory New Volunteer Orientation held periodically. The class is approximately one hour long and is held during the week in the early afternoon. See below to register. Orientation is informal and is your opportunity to learn if volunteering at this shelter is a good fit for you. Volunteer opportunities exist seven days a week - however only between the hours listed below:Kennel cleaning, cat cage cleaning, kitchen sanitizing: 8:30am - 4:00pm
Dog Walking: 8:30am - 3:30pm
Cat Cuddling: 12:30 - 4:00pm
Clerical Assistance: 9:00am - 4:00pm
PetSmart Aide: 7:00 - 930am AND 4:30 - 7:00pm
NEXT ORIENTATION: Contact the shelter.
IMPORTANT: The majority of those who begin this process with the best of intentions realize they can not follow through with the commitment. We are in need of dedicated individuals who can volunteer at least 3-4 hours a week. If you feel unable to make such a commitment at this time we encourage you to wait until you are able to do so. We look forward to hearing from those who can make the commitment.
