Seasonal Animal Keepers 

The Cape May County Zoo has openings for Seasonal Animal Keepers 40 HRS/Week for a 6 month duration.  Preference will be given to Cape May County Residents. Duties include all related Keeper duties, Cleaning, Feeding, Observation, Minor Maintenance, and other duties performed by our Keeper Staff.

Permanent Part-Time Animal Keeper

The Cape May County Zoo is accepting applications for a Permanent Part-Time Animal Keeper. The duties include but are not limited to:

  1. Carries out a regular scheduled program designed to insure prompt feeding and proper care for all mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians in a zoo.
  2. Reports immediately any mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians that are not well.
  3. Carries out regular daily maintenance program involved in keeping cages, pens, paddocks, and animal areas in good repair and in a manner that insures maximum cleanliness and neatness.
  4. Carries out regular daily enrichment and training for animals in assigned areas and ensures proper animal welfare.
  5. Performs minor repairs to animal displays and exhibits.
  6. Carefully enforces established zoo regulations relating to protection of mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians in a manner that insures maximum protection to them and maximum safety to the public.
  7. Requirements:
     One (1) year of experience in the care and feeding of  non-domesticated animals in a zoological park, or other animal sanctuary. Preference given to AZA or ZAA experience

Salary & Benefits:
 Position is considered Permanent Part-time which consists of 28 hours per week split into (4) seven hour work days. Work week will be 4 consecutive seven hour days. Position offers future opportunities for full time work. Time off is earned at the rate of:

  • (1) Personal day/56 seven-hour days worked up to a maximum of 3
  • (1) Vacation day/25 seven-hour days worked up to a maximum of 12
  • (1) Sick Day/19 seven-hour days worked up to a maximum of 15
  • (1) Holiday/21 seven-hour days worked up to a maximum of 13

Salary: $15.14 per hour
Part time position may lead to future opportunity for Full Time position

 6-Month Seasonal Education Keeper 2022

The Cape May County Park & Zoo Education Department is seeking an individual who is motivated, has great people skills, a passion for educating, and an up-beat personality to fill a Seasonal Education Keeper position. This employee, under the supervision of the Education Director will work alongside the education staff to present educational programs, conduct animal encounters with the public, guide tour groups through the zoo, assist with camps and outreach programs, assist in animal husbandry and animal training, create and implement animal enrichment, and assist with developing new curricula. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology, Wildlife Biology, Conservation Education, Zoo Science, Education, or related field. 
  • Animal care experience, preferably at an AZA facility.
  • Childcare experience.
  • Excellent public speaking, communication skills, creative thinking, and originality.
  • Excellent decision-making skills. 
  • Ability to handle and present ambassador animals in a safe, dignified manner.
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and can lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Additional Comments:

This position is for 40 hours a week and is SEASONAL;  it will be 6-months employment from your start date.  Preference is given to applicants with a Cape May County address.

The candidate we are looking for must possess all the qualifications listed above as well as the ability to work independently and with a team, a passion for education, and mindset to achieve larger goals for the Education Department.  This department is FUN and FAST paced!  We consist of 4 full time staff members, and our team of approximately 30 ambassador animals ranging from toads to wallabies.  We are an upbeat, supportive, charismatic team, and are looking for an applicant that will help us grow.

Due to the nature of this position, you must have a flexible schedule.
